Pheochromocytoma

Abstract
The clinical, pathological observation on seven patients with Pheochromocytoma diagnosed and treated at Seoul National University Hospital from July 1969 to June, 1977 were performed and following results were obtained:
In seven-cases of pheochromocytoma preoperative diagnosis were possible except two by clinical findings, elevated urinary vanillylmandelic acid excretion, regitine test and X-ray studies.
Fever, palpitation and headache occurred in all cases. Hypertension occurred in 6 cases, of which four cases were paroxysmal and two cases were sustained hypertension. In five cases, the urinary excretion of VMA was increased and positive response to Regitine test showed. In one case, significant arrhythmia and ventricular fibrillation occurred during removal of tumor, and these were well controlled with administration of 2mg of Inderal and whole blood.
Pathologically four cases were pheochromocytoma and three cases paraganglioma. All patients improved in clinical, laboratory findings after removal of tumor. The follow up result of two months after operation has been satisfactory. In addition, correlated literature was also reviewed.
